This move is just another technique to spike up piracy. And I applaud the hacking community more and more as this sort of thing happens.

@Surena: You can't beat the hacking community. They're more intelligent than the people who try to secure the games. And the intelligent always win.

The announcement comes on the heels of news that Mass Effect will also be ditching the ten day re-authentication.

We wanted to let you know that we've been hearing your concerns about the online authentication mentioned earlier this week. I didn't want to head into the weekend without getting back to you with some information about how Spore is planning on using this new system.

A few things we wanted you to know:

— We authenticate your game online when you install and launch it the first time.
— We'll re-authenticate when a player uses online features, downloads new content or a patch for their game.
— The new system means you don't have to play with the disc in your computer. And if you are like me, always losing discs, this will be a huge benefit.
— You'll still be able to install and play on multiple computers.
— You can play offline.

We do hope that players will play online - sharing creatures, buildings and vehicles with other players is something that is unique to Spore and one of the coolest features of the game. Every day, when I play the Creature Stage, I get to see wacky and awesome new creatures from my Buddies on the team coming over the hill at me and I can't wait to see what happens when our creative, passionate community starts sharing their creations.

So say you play the game for a year and you are "good" or "well evolved" or w/e status it does. Then you go on vacation for lets say 2 weeks. Your account is banned completely? Or do you have the option to do the check and have the account opened back up? Because like for example like in Diablo II they had the ticking down days until account is deleted. (BAD IDEA)

"An internet connection is not required to install, just to activate the first time, and every 10 days after."

This is the best quote ever

Statement: Pirates dont have to be any smarter to guarantee that games will be cracked. It is the simple fact that eventually game has to let real customers play, which is ultimate vulnurelablitily.

Reason similar to reason why DVD movies are pirateable and why DRM is totally pointless.

---

ANYWAY:

Czech edition is rumored to have calling-home check removed (because we are 3rd world country without internet access or something. Yay for us!).

So, if you people dont mind shipping from overseas, you can vote with your valet and show EA what kind of DRM is not acceptable.

I'm not interested in the game, but clicked out of curiosity. WTF are they stupid?

Look over it again. They removed this part of the copy protection on both Spore and Mass Effect.

Oh my dear sweet Lord. What have you pirates done?

Seriously, Elder Scrolls IV had almost 0 copy protection, not even a CD-key, but it still sold amazingly well. Then there's games like BF2142 that have sh!t like Starforce (or whatever it was called) on them which completely ruins the game. There has to be some way to have this all be feasible.

because, they want to authenticate every time you install a new custom contents, and guess what? Spores is build/make/code/design (don't know which word is the most suitable) around the idea that players share their custom contents. and you know average (for sims 2 players) how many custom contents are in their folders? Just a general Idea.

and I/we the crazy custom contents addict who pay for the game have to suffer, because why? they can't catch the true culprit?

That's because certain games simply sell well when they are targetted at mainstream gamers. Stardock did a pretty good article on it when they shipped Sins of a Solar Empire.

Will right(however you spell his name) has already stated that the packets being traded between players will only be a couple of kilobytes, doesnt bother me too much

Sadly agreed. At least Doom 2 doesn't need verification, and I'll *always* keep my PC for that : )

I wouldn't count on it Mr. G. This game will probably sell well.
